Welcome to Glenn's Gun Room

This is my attempt at reloading for an
ALL ORIGINAL !!! FINE 1847 Belgium 18mm double barrel Lefaucheux pistol
It fires a 16 bore x 1.6" pinfire 70 cal.

loaded case with Lee 12ga 1oz cast bullet.

I had to make a sizeing die to slightly neck down the CBC Brass cases.

Tenative loaded case with 810 gn cast bullet.

This is my first attempt at making cases for it.
I started with some 50BMG cases and turned them down in the lathe.
Then I drilled a no 43 hole in the extractor goove angleing in.
Next, I milled a recess in the inside of the case head for the primer to sit in.
I've tried a no. 11 Magnum muzzle loader cap and it seems to pop it consistentley.
Next, I'll have to make a bullet mold for it.

Shown next to the 16 bore howda is a 475 Linebaugh long, 1.6", and a 454 Casull.

I found some CBC 16 ga brass cases at Old Western Scrounger. The rims needed turned down to fit the gun.
I then cut them slightly long with a tubeing cutter, measured the length, then put back into the lathe to trim to the final length.
The cases are turning out within .001".

I contacted all the major mold manufactures to ask for info on the diameter of their 12 ga slug molds.
Lee was the only one to respond so I bought one of their molds.
The lee mold is made to go inside of a wad so It's actually smaller than 16 bore.
I shimmed the mold to get it closer to the right size. I'm hopeing that the hollow base will expand to seal the bore.

With the 50 BMG cases, I tried 20-30 gns of Pyrodex RS and my 810 gn bullet. Recoil was light and it was easy to shoot.
I couldn't get any velocity reading as the filler kept messing with the chrony readings.
Next time out, I'll try putting the chrony low and behind the target to see if I can get reading on just the bullet.

I'll post more info as I get time to shoot it.
If I can get it to shoot accuratly, I'll probably take it deer hunting this fall.
